BLACKWING KENNELS
BASENJIS and IRISH WOLFHOUNDS

ABOUT
BLACKWING
KENNELS
BLACKWING KENNELS. Established in the late 1980s, Blackwing (CKC Regd.) is owned and operated by Kathie Upton. Her first wolfhound, a show dog owned by Patrick Skidd, was Can. Ch. Rionnag Geal Rogan.

Kathie owned wolfhounds for ten years before she did her first breeding with a beautiful black female, Can. Ch. Rionnageal Emma. When running, Emma could fly over a fallow field, and hence gave the name to the kennel: Blackwing.

Emma had a great show career and produced the wolfhound kennel's first litter in 1990. Two of her offspring went on to get their championships, Can. Ch. Blackwing’s Esmeralda and Can. Ch. Blackwing’s Oisin.

In 1989, Kathie bought her first basenji, Can. Ch. Shamaron’s Astarte, who became the foundation bitch for her basenji kennel. Kathie's basenjis have done well in the ring, winning group placements and Best in Show.

Kathie has been a CKC member for 30+ years and has devoted herself to producing sound, healthy pups with good temperament, true to the Kennel Club's standards.
